Where it came from
Holger Danske was released in 2019 by The Old Firm Casuals, an American street punk band led by Lars Frederiksen, best known for his work with Rancid. The album represents the band's transition toward a more expansive sound, moving from their earlier Oi! roots into a heavier, arena-rock inspired aesthetic. Produced during a period of prolific output for the group, the record was released through Pirates Press Records, a label deeply embedded in the independent punk and hardcore scene.
The album's title and thematic elements reference the legend of Holger Danske, a mythical figure of Danish folklore who is said to sleep under Kronborg Castle, only to awaken when the country is in peril. This choice reflects the band's interest in heritage and resilience. The design work focuses on gritty, high-contrast imagery consistent with the band's visual identity, which aims to evoke the working-class ethos and directness characteristic of the genre.
