Where it came from
Ignacio Corsini was a pivotal figure in the golden age of Argentine tango, known as 'El Caballero Cantor' for his elegant vocal style and deep connection to the rural traditions of the payadores. This 2017 release from the Calle Mayor label serves as a retrospective anthology, meticulously curating recordings that capture Corsini's transition from folk-inspired music to the sophisticated urban tango scene of early 20th-century Buenos Aires.
The production sought to restore the clarity of Corsini's original early-century recordings, stripping away the surface noise of period shellac discs to highlight his precise phrasing and sentimental delivery. Design-wise, the release adopts a minimalist approach to archival presentation, focusing on historical preservation rather than modern reinterpretation, ensuring that the legacy of his storied career remains accessible to contemporary listeners.
