Igor Shukow Plays Piano Concertos By Skrjabin | Saint-Saëns

This 2016 compilation from Telos Music highlights the pianistic artistry of Igor Zhukov, a Soviet-Russian virtuoso celebrated for his deep technical command and introspective approach to complex Romantic and post-Romantic repertoire. The release serves as a curated retrospective of his interpretations of Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, works that demand both muscular agility and lyrical sensitivity.

The disc draws upon archival recordings that capture Zhukov’s distinctive tonal palette, which often favored clarity and structural rigor over excessive sentimentality. Telos Music produced this volume to preserve Zhukov’s legacy, presenting these performances alongside established ensembles such as the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken. The collection is highly regarded among enthusiasts of twentieth-century Soviet pianism for its preservation of a performance style that bridges the gap between the virtuosic traditions of the nineteenth century and the analytical clarity of the modern era.
