Ilakake

Released in 2012 on the Cinq Planètes label, Ilakake stands as a poignant contribution to the discography of Régis Gizavo, the celebrated Malagasy accordionist. The album emerged during a prolific period of the artist's career, serving as a testament to his unique ability to bridge the gap between traditional folk roots of Madagascar and contemporary world music sensibilities. His work is characterized by a mastery of the accordion that transcends borders, reflecting a lifetime of musical exploration that began in his homeland before he gained international acclaim in France.

The design and production of this album focused on highlighting Gizavo's intimate, melodic compositions, which often explore themes of identity, migration, and the landscape of his native country. By collaborating with the independent label Cinq Planètes, which was known for its commitment to global music, Gizavo maintained a sense of creative autonomy. Upon its reception, the record was noted for its refined, acoustic-driven arrangements, further cementing Gizavo’s reputation as a vital figure in the evolution of modern accordion music.
