J. S. Bach

This 1998 release featuring the works of Johann Sebastian Bach was produced as part of a promotional series by the British newspaper The Times. During the late 1990s, several major publications sought to expand their brand identity by offering curated classical music compilations to their readership, effectively serving as an accessible entry point for listeners to explore standard repertoire from the Baroque period.

The disc serves as a focused anthology of Bach’s most recognizable compositions, designed for broad appeal rather than scholarly performance critique. While the specific musicologists or editors responsible for the sequencing are not credited, the collection reflects the broader trend of the era's newspaper-sponsored classical samplers, which prioritized clean, standardized recordings intended to introduce the composer’s intellectual and harmonic complexity to a general audience.
