Where it came from
Released by the Swiss label Gallo in 1992, this recording serves as an archival tribute to the musical legacy of the Alain family, featuring performances by Albert Alain and his children, Jehan and Marie-Claire. The compilation captures a unique intersection of French organ tradition, documenting the improvisational and compositional styles that defined the family's influence on mid-20th-century sacred music.
The disc functions largely as a historical document, preserving recordings that highlight the distinct artistic evolution of Jehan Alain, whose promising career was tragically cut short during the Second World War. By presenting the works alongside those of his father and sister, the collection provides context for the lineage of the Alain family's technical mastery and their approach to the organ repertoire, which remains highly regarded by classical music scholars and liturgical organists.
