Jenny Whiteley

Released in 2001 on the Quick Time Publishing label, this self-titled album serves as a definitive look at Jenny Whiteley's transition into a solo recording artist. Following her work with the band Heartbreak Hill, the album captures the blend of folk, alt-country, and roots-rock sensibilities that defined the Canadian independent music scene during the turn of the millennium. It was recorded in an era where independent labels were increasingly vital for artists looking to retain creative control over their acoustic-driven arrangements.

The album is noted for its intimate songwriting and stripped-back production, which highlights Whiteley's vocal delivery and personal narrative style. Critics often pointed to the record as a continuation of her family's deep roots in traditional music while simultaneously embracing a contemporary singer-songwriter aesthetic. Upon its release, the collection received positive attention for its earnestness and craftsmanship, helping to solidify Whiteley's position within the vibrant Toronto-based music community of that time.
