Jolly Jive = ジョリー・ジャイヴ

Jolly Jive was originally released in 1984 as a vibrant entry in Masayoshi Takanaka’s prolific discography during his peak years of popularity. Defined by its breezy, summer-inspired fusion of jazz, funk, and Latin rhythms, the album solidified Takanaka’s reputation as one of Japan's most celebrated guitarists. The record captures the essence of the mid-eighties Japanese music scene, characterized by high production values and an optimistic, leisure-focused aesthetic often referred to as city pop or fusion.

The 2018 release under Universal Music is part of a broader initiative to reissue Takanaka’s classic catalog, ensuring these recordings remain accessible to contemporary listeners. The design retains the original iconic visual identity, which often features Takanaka’s distinctively vibrant photography and surf-culture motifs. These reissues are widely regarded by collectors as essential documents of Takanaka’s technical prowess and his unique ability to evoke a sense of coastal escapism through his intricate guitar work.
