Where it came from
Released in 1998 on the independent label VANITAb, Jong van Bolhoes serves as a primary musical document for Dutch artist Alje van Bolhuis. The project emerged from a period of experimental music production in the late nineties, capturing a distinct intersection of personal songwriting and lo-fi electronic arrangements that characterized the independent scene in the Netherlands during that era.
The album reflects a minimalist approach to design and composition, with van Bolhuis overseeing the creative direction to ensure a cohesive, intimate listening experience. The release was received as an introspective work within the niche circles of Dutch avant-pop, notable for its stark, unconventional production style and the thematic focus on identity and local narrative that van Bolhuis explored throughout his career.
