Jolly What!

Jolly What! was originally released by Vee-Jay Records in 1964 as a strategic attempt to capitalize on the burgeoning popularity of the Beatles in the United States. The album was a hybrid compilation, pairing four tracks from the Beatles with eight tracks by the British entertainer Frank Ifield, who shared the same label. This unconventional coupling was a direct result of the label's desperate scramble to issue Beatles material amidst complex licensing rights and the rapidly shifting landscape of the American music industry.

The album's cover art, depicting a caricature of the Beatles dressed in period attire, is notable for its kitschy, illustrative style which starkly contrasted with the band's own visual identity. Designed during a time when American labels often repackaged imported music without artist input, the cover has since become a historical curiosity.
