Where it came from
Released in 2021 on the Double Moon Records label, Kaboom represents a collaborative project between the Michel Meis 4tet and French violinist Théo Ceccaldi. The album emerged from the vibrant European jazz scene, capturing a period of creative cross-pollination between the Luxembourg-based drummer Michel Meis and his quartet, which consists of Alisa Klein, Cédric Hanriot, and Stephan Goldbach, alongside the distinct improvisational energy brought by guest artist Théo Ceccaldi.
The album is noted for its blend of contemporary jazz textures and intricate, rhythmic compositions. Michel Meis, who has been recognized for his ability to weave complex structures into accessible modern jazz, sought to push the ensemble's dynamic range through this collaboration. The project was received as a significant entry in the 4tet's discography, praised by critics for its interplay between the disciplined arrangements of the quartet and the spontaneous, emotive contributions of Ceccaldi's violin.
