Where it came from
Released in 2023 by the German label Double Moon Records, Born in Millennium represents a collaborative effort between the Slovakian jazz pianist Alan Bartuš and the American jazz drummer Gregory Hutchinson. The album is situated within the contemporary jazz landscape, serving as a platform for Bartuš to showcase his compositions alongside the seasoned rhythmic expertise of Hutchinson. The project captures a bridge between generations, blending the European harmonic sensibility of Bartuš with the deep-rooted American jazz tradition maintained by Hutchinson.
The design of the album reflects the label's commitment to clean, artist-focused aesthetics typical of its modern jazz catalog. The music itself received attention for its improvisational interplay and the technical proficiency of both musicians. Critics have noted that the release highlights Bartuš's role as a rising figure in the European scene, effectively leveraging the partnership to explore complex tonal palettes and syncopated structures.
