"Le Pont De La Rivière Kwai" Et Les Musiques Des Films De David Lean

This 2012 release by Milan Records serves as a curated retrospective of the evocative musical partnerships that defined the cinematic legacy of director David Lean. The compilation gathers iconic scores from landmark films such as The Bridge on the River Kwai, featuring Malcolm Arnold’s Academy Award-winning work, alongside the sweeping, exotic compositions of Maurice Jarre for Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago. By pairing these scores, the collection highlights the evolution of epic film scoring during the mid-20th century, specifically the shift toward thematic grandeur that matched Lean’s expansive visual style.

The album reflects the efforts of Milan Records to preserve and recontextualize classic soundtracks for contemporary audiences. The design and track selection were intended to emphasize the collaborative tension between Lean’s meticulous directorial eye and his composers' abilities to capture the geographic and emotional scope of his narratives. Upon its release, it was received as a valuable resource for film music enthusiasts, offering a concise entry point into the distinct auditory landscapes that turned these historical dramas into quintessential cinematic masterpieces.
