Where it came from
Les Gray's Mud was released in 1993, representing the later career output of the original lead singer of the 1970s glam rock band Mud. Following the band's commercial decline and eventual disbandment, Gray continued to perform under variations of the name, keeping the classic rock and rockabilly aesthetic of his earlier work alive for a dedicated fan base during the early 1990s.
The album serves as a nostalgic collection, intended to recapture the high-energy, tongue-in-cheek spirit that defined the original Mud's chart success in the mid-1970s. While it did not reach the commercial heights of the group's heyday, it stands as a testament to Gray’s commitment to the genre, leaning into a sound that was largely out of step with the prevailing grunge and alternative rock trends of the era.
