Lille Klaus Og Store Klaus

Lille Klaus og Store Klaus, released in 1993 by the Danish label Elap, represents a long-standing tradition of audio storytelling in Scandinavia. The project features Peter Kitter, a prominent Danish actor and entertainer known for his versatile voice work, interpreting one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most famous literary fairy tales. By the early 1990s, Elap had established itself as a prolific distributor of budget-friendly music and children's entertainment, focusing on making classic folklore accessible to a new generation through the then-dominant medium of the compact disc.

The production leans on the inherent moral complexity of Andersen’s original 1835 narrative, which details the cunning and often dark rivalry between the two protagonists. Kitter’s approach to the material is marked by a theatrical, character-driven narration designed to capture the attention of younger listeners while maintaining the sardonic wit of the original text. As a collection piece, the release is viewed as a charming snapshot of mid-90s Danish audio media, reflective of a time when radio-style storytelling remained a staple of children’s home media before the transition to digital streaming.
