Linval Thompson Meets Roberto Sánchez At The Ark - Marijuana Sessions In Dub

Released in 2024 on the Spanish A-Lone Productions label, this album serves as a collaborative meeting of minds between legendary roots reggae singer Linval Thompson and producer Roberto Sánchez. The project continues the tradition of the 'meets' albums common in reggae and dub history, where a vocalist's classic or newly recorded tracks are reimagined through the prism of a specific producer's sonic aesthetic. It draws heavily from the foundational sounds of 1970s Jamaican dub, processed through the modern, high-fidelity studio techniques that Sánchez has become renowned for at his A-Lone Ark Muzik studio.

The design and production intent behind this collaboration focus on the seamless integration of Thompson’s soulful, veteran vocal delivery with the heavy, organic dub arrangements signature to Sánchez. By utilizing analog equipment and vintage recording philosophies, the artists aimed to capture the raw, hypnotic spirit of early dub rather than a digital reproduction. The project has been received by enthusiasts as a respectful nod to the golden era of roots reggae, praised for its adherence to the deep, percussive, and bass-heavy traditions that define the dub genre.
