Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1997 by the Portuguese label Numérica, this collection serves as a pedagogical bridge between classical repertoire and children's literature. It features a dual-disc structure, with the first volume focusing on the works of Frederico de Freitas and the second drawing from Robert Schumann's Album for the Young. The project was conceived as an educational tool for youth, blending the storytelling sensibilities of Florinda Santos with foundational piano compositions.

The album was designed to cultivate an appreciation for both Portuguese contemporary music and the German Romantic tradition. By pairing de Freitas's compositions with Schumann's accessible yet sophisticated miniatures, the production sought to provide young students with a narrative-driven listening experience. It remains a notable example of late-20th-century Portuguese efforts to make historical piano literature more engaging for a younger audience.
