Llego... Van Van (Van Van Is Here)

Llego... Van Van was released in 1999 as a significant milestone for Los Van Van, the legendary Cuban band founded by Juan Formell. The album served as a bridge between the group’s deep-rooted son-songo traditions and the modern, globalized sound of late-nineties timba. Produced under the Atlantic label, the record was intended to capture the electric, polyrhythmic energy of Havana’s dance floors and present it to an international audience, effectively solidifying the ensemble's reputation as the premier architects of contemporary Cuban dance music.

The album's design and musical direction reflect the band’s evolution under Formell’s leadership, blending traditional instrumentation with sophisticated electronic production textures. Following its release, the album earned critical acclaim, culminating in a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Performance in 2000. It is widely regarded as a pivotal document of the genre, appreciated by musicologists and dance enthusiasts alike for its complex percussion arrangements and the enduring, soulful charisma of the band's vocalists.
