Where it came from
Released in 2018 through the Montreal-based independent label Bonsound, this self-titled debut album by Loïc April marked a significant entry into the Quebec alternative rock scene. The record was conceived during a period of transition for the artist, blending elements of post-punk, shoegaze, and ambient noise to create a dense, atmospheric soundscape that reflects a introspective and often melancholic perspective.
The album's design and sonic direction were driven by April's interest in textural experimentation and song structures that prioritize mood over traditional pop sensibilities. Critics at the time of its release frequently noted its raw, immersive production quality, viewing it as a sophisticated progression of the indie rock aesthetic prevalent in the Francophone music circuit, successfully establishing April as a distinct voice in contemporary Canadian music.
