L'Œuvre Pour Violon & Piano

Released in 2014 by the label Continuo Classics, this recording serves as a dedicated survey of the chamber music compositions for violin and piano by the French composer and conductor Gabriel Pierné. Pierné, a central figure in early 20th-century French music and a successor to César Franck at the Sainte-Clotilde basilica, wrote works that bridge the late Romantic style and the more delicate, impressionistic sensibilities of his contemporaries.

The album features performances by violinist Gaëtane Prouvost and pianist Laurent Cabasso. The duo approaches Pierné’s repertoire with a focus on capturing the lyrical nuance and technical refinement that characterized the composer's output. Upon its release, the recording was noted for bringing greater visibility to Pierné's violin sonatas and shorter concert pieces, providing a cohesive reference for listeners interested in the lesser-explored corners of the French chamber tradition.
