Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2020 by Sony Classical, this comprehensive collection features German pianist Matthias Kirschnereit performing the complete original concertos for piano and orchestra by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Kirschnereit collaborated with the Bamberger Symphoniker under the baton of conductor Frank Beermann to provide a cohesive interpretation of these foundational works of the classical repertoire. The project was conceived as an authoritative survey of the concertos, aiming to capture the balance between technical precision and the nuanced emotional expressivity characteristic of Mozart's mid-to-late creative periods.

The recording process emphasized a modern, transparent sound profile intended to highlight the interplay between the soloist and the orchestra, moving away from more dense, romanticized interpretations of the early 21st century. Kirschnereit, known for his dedication to the Germanic classical tradition, worked to emphasize the conversational nature of the dialogue between the piano and the ensemble. Upon its release, the set was noted by critics for its academic rigor and the stylistic consistency achieved across the expansive multi-disc structure, serving as a significant contemporary reference for Mozart's keyboard concertos.
