Where it came from
Released by Avi-Music in 2013, this album features clarinetist Matthias Schorn and the Minetti Quartett performing chamber music staples alongside the works of contemporary Austrian composer Balduin Sulzer. The recording serves as a bridge between the classical tradition established by Mozart and Brahms and the 20th-century sensibilities of Sulzer, highlighting the expressive versatility of the clarinet quintet format.
The collaboration showcases the Minetti Quartett, an ensemble known for its technical precision and dedication to the Viennese chamber music tradition. Schorn, recognized for his virtuosity as a principal clarinetist, provides a refined performance that balances the structural clarity of the classical repertoire with the nuanced, modern harmonic language found in Sulzer's compositions. The album was well-regarded upon release for its thoughtful programming and the high fidelity of the chamber ensemble's interplay.
