Where it came from
Mot Midnatt was released in 2000 as a collaborative project featuring the musician Steffen Kverneland under his pseudonym, Steffen og Hans Drømmeorkester. The album emerged during a period of experimentation within the Norwegian music scene, blending elements of indie pop with whimsical, narrative-driven songwriting that prioritized atmosphere and intimate production over mainstream appeal.
The album's design and sound were crafted to evoke a sense of late-night introspection, reflecting the literal meaning of the title, Towards Midnight. The project was received by a niche audience as a charming, idiosyncratic release that highlighted Kverneland's multi-disciplinary creative approach, existing more as a personal artistic expression than a pursuit of broad commercial success.
