My Dinner With Bruce: Songs Of Bruce Cockburn

Released in 2006 on the Signpost Music label, My Dinner With Bruce serves as a tribute album by Canadian singer-songwriter Steve Bell. The project was conceived as an homage to the influential folk-rock catalog of Bruce Cockburn, reflecting a shared musical lineage within the Canadian singer-songwriter tradition. Bell sought to interpret Cockburn’s complex, often spiritually and politically charged lyrics through his own acoustic-driven sensibility, bridging the gap between their respective artistic styles.

The album was designed to capture an intimate, stripped-back atmosphere, mirroring the storytelling focus that defines Cockburn's work. The project was generally received as a respectful and thoughtful interpretation, appreciated by fans of the adult contemporary and folk genres for its technical musicianship and Bell's ability to maintain the integrity of the original compositions while providing fresh arrangements. It stands as a notable example of one artist's curated exploration of another's life work.
