Where it came from
Released in 2002 on the BCI Music label, O Sister! serves as a representative work by The Konnarock Critters, a band deeply rooted in the traditional Appalachian string band music of the Mount Rogers area of Virginia. The album reflects the group's commitment to preserving the old-time music tradition, focusing on fiddle-driven arrangements and vocal harmonies that emphasize the regional identity of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The album's design and selection of tracks align with the wider mission of the band to document and revitalize the repertoire of local musicians who influenced the development of American folk and bluegrass. Produced to showcase the interplay between twin fiddles and rhythmic drive, the recording was received by the folk community as an authentic archival effort that avoided modern production polish in favor of maintaining the raw, spontaneous energy characteristic of mountain dance music.
