Where it came from
Released in 2008, this collection serves as a commemorative retrospective for the One Voice Mixed Chorus, a prominent Twin Cities-based LGBTQ+ choral ensemble. The album was compiled to mark the group's twentieth anniversary, curating a selection of songs that capture the choir's evolution from its founding in 1988. It functions as both a historical record of their artistic development and a celebration of their mission to build community through choral music.
The album's title, Old, New, Borrowed, Q!, plays on the traditional wedding adage while highlighting the 'Q' for queer identity central to the group's mission. The design and tracklist reflect the chorus's commitment to inclusive programming, featuring a mix of choral standards, contemporary arrangements, and commissioned works that highlight the diverse voices within the ensemble. The recording was produced independently to preserve the chorus's creative autonomy, reflecting the grassroots nature of the organization.
