Peterson-Berger - Complete Piano Music Volume 3

Released in 2004 on the Swedish Society Discofil label, this recording is part of an authoritative cycle dedicated to the complete piano works of Wilhelm Peterson-Berger. Performed by Olof Höjer, the project sought to preserve the nuanced late-Romanticism and Swedish national romanticist aesthetic that defines Peterson-Berger’s compositional style. The series was designed to provide a comprehensive reference for listeners interested in the intersection of Scandinavian folk influences and traditional classical structures.

Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was deeply influenced by Grieg and Wagner, often imbuing his music with the atmosphere of the Swedish landscape, particularly the province of Jämtland. Olof Höjer, a scholar and pianist noted for his dedication to this repertoire, approached these recordings with a focus on stylistic authenticity. Upon release, the cycle was well-received by classical music critics for its technical clarity and for bringing lesser-known piano miniatures out of the academic archive and into broader public accessibility.
