Peterson-Berger Och Poeterna

Released in 2003 by the Swedish label Nosag Records, this recording highlights the vocal compositions of Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, one of Sweden's most significant late-Romantic composers. Peterson-Berger was deeply influenced by Swedish folk traditions and the poetry of his time, often seeking to capture the distinct atmosphere of the Nordic landscape in his lieder. This specific collection serves as an archival effort to preserve his intimate chamber works, performed here by soprano Solveig Faringer and pianist Lena Johnson.

The production aims to showcase the intersection of Peterson-Berger's late 19th-century lyrical style with the refined interpretative sensibilities of contemporary Swedish performers. By focusing on 'Och Poeterna' and other poetic settings, the album emphasizes the composer's careful marriage of melody and verse. Upon its release, it was received as a scholarly contribution to the Peterson-Berger discography, valued for its focus on the vocal repertoire that remains a cornerstone of the Swedish classical tradition.
