Where it came from
Released in 1987 on the Jecklin-Disco label, this recording showcases the artistry of Swiss flutist Peter-Lukas Graf, accompanied by pianist Zsuzsanna Sirokay. The album serves as a curated exploration of the 19th-century virtuoso flute repertoire, featuring works by composers such as Friedrich Kuhlau, Ferdinand Ries, and Carl Czerny, who were instrumental in elevating the flute from an orchestral voice to a centerpiece of chamber music performance.
Peter-Lukas Graf, renowned for his refined tone and technical precision, intended this collection to highlight the distinct challenges and expressive capabilities of the Romantic-era flute. The recording is representative of Jecklin’s commitment to documenting specialized classical performances during the late twentieth century. Upon its release, it was well-received by flute scholars and enthusiasts for its adherence to period-appropriate performance styles and its contribution to the preservation of lesser-known nineteenth-century pedagogical and recital pieces.
