Pura Rockobachata Con: Aladino Y Jenny Peñafiel

Released in 2000 by the Ecuadorian label Ifesa, this collaborative album sits at the intersection of popular local genres during a period when fusion styles were gaining momentum in the Andean music scene. Aladino, frequently referred to as 'El Mago de la Rockola,' was already a significant cultural figure known for his soulful, often melancholic interpretations of traditional Ecuadorian rockola music. By teaming up with Jenny Peñafiel, the production aimed to bridge the gap between classic romantic ballads and the more upbeat, danceable rhythms of tropical pop and bachata that were dominating radio airwaves at the turn of the millennium.

The album serves as a snapshot of the experimental collaborative spirit prevalent in Guayaquil's music industry at the time, where established artists often pivoted into hybrid sounds to remain relevant to younger audiences. The production leans into a distinctively bright and synthetic late-nineties pop aesthetic, characteristic of Ifesa’s efforts to modernize their catalogue. While the album was primarily marketed for the domestic Ecuadorian market, it remains a noted curiosity for collectors interested in the evolution of regional fusion music, representing a specific moment where the traditional sentimentality of rockola met the high-energy demands of the burgeoning local club culture.
