Where it came from
Released in 2017 by RGS Music, Querido Bill is a heartfelt tribute album by the Argentine jazz bassist Alfredo Remus. The project serves as an homage to the legendary American pianist Bill Evans, whose impressionistic harmonic language and lyrical approach to the piano trio format profoundly influenced jazz musicians worldwide. Remus, a foundational figure in the Argentine jazz scene who played alongside international icons visiting Buenos Aires, selected repertoire that reflects the nuanced sensibilities and introspective quality associated with Evans' body of work.
The production captures the collaborative spirit of a classic jazz trio, emphasizing the interplay and delicate balance required to honor Evans' legacy. Remus’s bass work provides a melodic and rhythmic foundation that echoes the conversational style Evans cultivated with his own bassists, such as Scott LaFaro or Eddie Gómez. Received by critics as a sincere and technically proficient labor of love, the album reflects Remus's deep technical mastery and his long-standing dedication to the traditions of post-bop and modern jazz performance.
