Reiner Rarities Volume Two

Reiner Rarities Volume Two was released by Pristine Audio in 2011 as part of an ongoing initiative to restore and remaster historical recordings conducted by Fritz Reiner. This collection focuses on filling gaps in the conductor's discography, gathering obscure or live performances that were not included in his primary studio catalogs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The series serves as a testament to the rigorous archival work required to preserve the legacy of a conductor known for his precision, austere interpretive style, and technical mastery of the orchestral medium.

The technical approach taken by Pristine Audio for this release involves their proprietary XR remastering process, which seeks to reduce surface noise and enhance dynamic range while maintaining the sonic character of the original transcription discs or tapes. These releases are generally aimed at audiophiles and classical music historians who prioritize performance history over modern production standards. The collection was well-received within specialized music circles for shedding light on Reiner’s pre-Chicago career and demonstrating his consistent stylistic approach across various ensembles.
