Rheingold

Released in 2015 on the Klangwelten Records label, Rheingold is a notable project by German harpist and composer Rüdiger Oppermann. The album reflects Oppermann’s decades-long career as a pioneer of world music, blending traditional Celtic and European folk influences with diverse global instrumentation. The composition is built upon the foundational inspiration of Wagner’s Das Rheingold, reimagined through the prism of contemporary world fusion rather than strict classical interpretation.

The album serves as a showcase for the Global Players, an evolving ensemble of musicians from various cultural backgrounds that Oppermann has curated throughout his career. The production style emphasizes the ethereal, resonance-heavy quality of the Celtic harp, balanced by complex percussion and melodic interplay from multi-ethnic instruments. Upon its release, it was received as a mature continuation of Oppermann’s interest in the 'Klangwelten' (Sound Worlds) concept, a series of international music festivals and recordings he founded to foster cross-cultural dialogue through sound.
