Provenance

Where it came from

Rivière Rouge was released in 2015 by the Gaspesian folk-blues duo Dans L'Shed, consisting of multi-instrumentalists Éric Dion and André Lavergne. The album serves as a definitive exploration of the roots music scene in Quebec, blending traditional folk sensibilities with a gritty, modern Americana aesthetic. It was produced under the Le Grenier Musique label, which has become a significant home for artists championing the cultural identity of the Gaspe Peninsula.

The album's sound is characterized by a stripped-back approach that relies on slide guitar, harmonica, and evocative storytelling that draws heavily on the regional geography and history of the St. Lawrence river area. Upon its release, the project was well-received by regional critics for its authenticity and craftsmanship, helping to solidify the duo’s reputation within the francophone folk circuit and setting the stage for their subsequent nominations at the ADISQ gala.
