Romeo Und Julia, Phantasie-Ouvertüre • Dornröschen, Ballettsuite Op. 66 • Der Nußknacker, Bellettsuite Op. 71a • Czárdás Aus "Schwanensee" Op. 20

This collection, released under the VMK Globe label in 1987, serves as a budget-conscious compilation of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most iconic orchestral and ballet works. During the late 1980s, the market saw a proliferation of such compilations, often designed to introduce classical repertoire to a wider audience through accessible, thematic groupings of overtures and suites. These recordings, featuring conductors like Laurence Siegel and Vladimir Petroschoff alongside ensembles such as the Berliner Festspielorchester, were typically produced for the mass-market consumer, emphasizing convenience and familiar melody over the prestige of major international recording houses.

The aesthetic and production approach of this release reflects the era's demand for comprehensive yet portable classical listening experiences on the then-dominant compact disc format. The selection of repertoire—highlighting staples like the Romeo and Juliet fantasy overture alongside excerpts from The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty—aimed to showcase Tchaikovsky’s melodic brilliance and dramatic flair. While these recordings did not receive the same critical scrutiny or institutional backing as contemporary studio releases from major labels like Deutsche Grammophon or Decca, they played a role in the democratization of classical music within domestic households.
