Provenance

Where it came from

Sommige Gedichten was released in 2009 under the Harlekijn Holland label, serving as a dedicated showcase for the literary side of Herman van Veen. The album features the artist reading a curated selection of his own poetry, stepping away from his typical musical compositions to focus on the cadence and rhythm of his spoken word. This project reflects his long-standing dual identity as both a musician and a serious writer, providing listeners with a more intimate, stripped-back experience that highlights his evolution as a storyteller.

The production maintains the minimalist aesthetic characteristic of Van Veen’s Harlekijn label, which has long aimed to preserve the integrity of his performance art. Designed to sit alongside his expansive discography, the album was received as a contemplative companion piece for his dedicated following. By focusing entirely on his voice, the record emphasizes the lyrical precision and gentle, observational tone that have defined his career in Dutch and German-speaking performance circles for decades.
