Tex Perkins & The Fat Rubber Band

Released in 2021 on the Source Music label, this album represents a distinct chapter in the long-running career of Australian rock musician Tex Perkins. Known for his work with the Cruel Sea and Beasts of Bourbon, Perkins assembled The Fat Rubber Band to explore a gritty, blues-infused sound that emphasizes his signature baritone vocals and a back-to-basics instrumental approach. The project emerged during a period of creative redirection for Perkins, moving away from more experimental arrangements to embrace a loose, improvisational studio energy.

The album was produced with an aesthetic focused on raw, organic textures that reflect a mid-century blues and soul sensibility. It was designed to showcase the chemistry between Perkins and his backing ensemble, favoring live-room recording techniques over heavy post-production polish. Upon its release, the record was recognized by fans and critics as a focused effort that solidified Perkins' reputation as a staple of the Australian roots and rock scene, serving as a testament to his enduring influence as a songwriter and performer.
