Provenance

Where it came from

The Final Jolly Roger was released in 2011 by Hellion Records as a comprehensive compilation capturing the essence of Running Wild, a German heavy metal band synonymous with the pirate-themed power metal subgenre. Originally formed in 1976 by guitarist Rolf Kasparek, the band became renowned for their nautical imagery and historical lyricism, which set a distinctive aesthetic standard for the European metal scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

This collection serves as a retrospective of the band's career, curated to highlight the high-energy riffing and thematic storytelling that solidified Running Wild’s cult following. The design and presentation reflect the band's long-standing commitment to their swashbuckling visual identity, which was met with appreciation by longtime fans who viewed the release as a thorough documentation of their contribution to the development of speed and power metal.
