Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2020 by the Acrobat label, this compilation serves as a comprehensive archival project dedicated to the early professional output of Floyd Cramer. The collection focuses on the pivotal decade between 1953 and 1962, a transformative period for American popular music when Cramer helped codify the 'Nashville Sound.' His work during these years moved away from the more ornate styles of the era, favoring a smoother, more polished piano delivery that became an essential element of the country-pop crossover movement.

Cramer is best remembered for his signature 'slip-note' piano technique, an approach that involved sliding between notes to mimic the expressive qualities of a human voice or a pedal steel guitar. This collection brings together these early recordings to showcase how his influence extended from his work as a session musician for legends like Elvis Presley and Patsy Cline to his own chart-topping solo career. The retrospective was designed for audiophiles and historians seeking a curated look at the technical evolution of mid-century country piano performance.
