The Nutcracker = Der Nussknacker = Casse-Noisette · The Sleeping Beauty – Suite = Dornröschen = La Belle Au Bois · Romeo & Juliet

This collection brings together some of Tchaikovsky’s most iconic ballet music under the baton of Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Released by Deutsche Grammophon, a label synonymous with high-fidelity classical recordings, this compilation captures the lush, expansive soundscapes characteristic of Ozawa's tenure in Boston. It serves as an accessible entry point into the dramatic orchestration of the Romantic era, focusing on the refined precision for which the conductor was renowned during the late twentieth century.

The album was designed to offer listeners the most recognizable highlights from Tchaikovsky’s major stage works, pairing the whimsical enchantment of The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty with the intense, tragic fervor of Romeo and Juliet. The cover art follows the classic, minimalist aesthetic typical of Deutsche Grammophon's mid-to-late career releases, aiming to prioritize the authority of the performance over decorative embellishment. Critically, the recording was well-received for its clarity, with reviewers often praising Ozawa’s ability to balance the technical demands of the score with the storytelling elements inherent in the ballet suites.
