Where it came from
The Rumble, released in 2021 through the Japanese label Avalon, serves as the debut solo studio album from Swedish vocalist Kent Hilli. Known primarily for his work with the melodic rock band Perfect Plan, Hilli embarked on this project to explore his influences in classic AOR and hard rock. The album was produced by Jona Tee, a collaborator who sought to emphasize Hilli’s powerful, high-register vocal capabilities within a polished, contemporary production style.
Musically, the album aligns with the tradition of late 1980s and early 1990s melodic rock, characterized by anthemic choruses, layered keyboards, and driving guitar riffs. The design and soundscapes were crafted to evoke a sense of nostalgia for the arena rock era while maintaining the high fidelity expected by modern listeners. Upon its release, the album was well received within the niche melodic rock community, earning praise for its professional execution and Hilli’s ability to anchor the traditional genre sound with modern intensity.
