Where it came from
Released in 1998 by the independent label Vanishing Vanity Music, this compilation served as a sonic manifesto for the label's aesthetic. It was curated to showcase the diverse range of experimental and indie-rock artists associated with the imprint during the late nineties, capturing the specific lo-fi and avant-garde sensibilities that defined the underground scene at the time.
The album's design and tracklist curation reflect the label's commitment to highlighting emerging musicians who often operated outside of mainstream industry channels. By compiling these disparate sounds, the label sought to establish a cohesive identity for its roster, providing listeners with a curated gateway into the label's catalog while documenting the eclectic musical landscape of the late twentieth-century indie movement.
