Where it came from
Released in 2020 on the Berlin Classics label, this album serves as a definitive showcase for the virtuosity of Matthias Höfs, one of the most prominent classical trumpeters of his generation. The collection was curated to highlight the versatility of the trumpet across various musical eras, drawing on Höfs’s long-standing reputation as a former member of the German Brass ensemble and his extensive pedagogical work at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.
The production philosophy behind the album focuses on the tonal clarity and expressive range of the instrument, reflecting Höfs's intention to bridge the gap between technical brilliance and emotional depth. Critically, the recording was well-received for its crisp engineering and Höfs’s ability to navigate complex arrangements with effortless precision, solidifying his status as a leading voice in contemporary classical wind performance.
