Where it came from
Today Tomorrow Forever was released in 2002 on the independent label Tears Music as the sophomore studio album by the ensemble Jolly Pickles. Emerging from the vibrant but niche mid-western indie rock scene of the early 2000s, the album was conceived as a thematic exploration of shifting personal relationships and the passage of time, themes that were central to the band's songwriting philosophy at the time.
The album's visual identity was spearheaded by local graphic designer Elena Vance, who opted for a minimalist, high-contrast aesthetic that deviated from the more chaotic cover art common among their contemporaries. Upon its release, the record received modest critical praise for its layered instrumentation and introspective lyrics, serving as a defining, if relatively obscure, document of the band’s creative transition from basement recordings to a more polished studio sound.
