Provenance

Where it came from

Todo Carmen Linares was released in 2014 by Universal Music Group as a comprehensive retrospective of the career of Carmen Linares, one of the most celebrated voices in contemporary flamenco. The collection was curated to honor her significant contribution to the art form, specifically highlighting her transition from traditional performances in the 1970s to her role as a bridge between classic flamenco and modern literary adaptations, such as her landmark interpretations of poetry by Federico García Lorca and Juan Ramón Jiménez.

The design of the collection centers on Linares's stature as a cultural icon, emphasizing her technical mastery and emotional depth. By compiling tracks from her long tenure in the studio, the release serves as a definitive catalog of her stylistic evolution. It was received by critics and the flamenco community as an essential archive, preserving the work of an artist who helped elevate flamenco from regional performances to global concert stages while maintaining the integrity of the Cante Jondo tradition.
