Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2024 by the Japanese label P-Vine Records, Togetherness acts as a comprehensive retrospective of the British jazz trumpeter and composer Matthew Halsall. The collection synthesizes the evolution of his sound between 2008 and 2023, tracing his trajectory from traditional spiritual jazz foundations toward the more atmospheric, meditative, and modal compositions that have defined his recent work on the Gondwana Records imprint.

The compilation serves as an entry point for international audiences to appreciate Halsall's distinct approach to contemporary jazz, which often features lush arrangements, harp-heavy textures, and a deliberate sense of minimalism. By selecting highlights from his extensive discography, the release encapsulates his thematic focus on unity and natural beauty, reflecting the refined aesthetic that has made him a central figure in the revitalized Manchester jazz scene.
