Where it came from
The Trois-Rivières Metalfest 2002 compilation was released by Galy Records to commemorate the annual heavy metal festival held in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The album served as a promotional showcase for the diverse and burgeoning extreme music scene in the province, gathering tracks from bands featured on the event's lineup. Such compilations were common in the early 2000s as a means for independent labels to expand the reach of underground artists to a broader international metal audience.
The design of the CD reflects the aesthetic conventions of the era's death and thrash metal scenes, prioritizing a gritty and aggressive visual style consistent with the brutal nature of the festival. By compiling these specific tracks, the label aimed to capture the intensity of the live experience for fans who attended or those unable to witness the performance firsthand. It remains a documented piece of Canadian metal history, preserving a snapshot of the regional scene at the turn of the millennium.
