Where it came from
Un salon de musique was released in 2014 by the independent label NoMadMusic, featuring the Ensemble Résonances. The recording serves as a curated exploration of the French Baroque chamber music tradition, specifically aiming to recreate the intimate, sophisticated atmosphere of the private salons prevalent in 18th-century Paris. The repertoire selected for the album highlights the intricate interplay between the viola da gamba, the transverse flute, and the theorbo, instruments central to the era's domestic musical life.
The album includes works by notable composers such as Marin Marais and Jacques Martin Hotteterre, focusing on the refined technical and emotional nuances characteristic of the French school. Ensemble Résonances approached these pieces with a commitment to historically informed performance practice, emphasizing the ornamental complexity and improvisational spirit required by the period. Upon its release, the recording was recognized for its scholarly attention to detail and the cohesive, immersive quality of its soundscape.
