Œuvres pour piano à quatre mains

Released in 2022 by the French label B Records, this recording features pianists Éric Le Sage and Théo Fouchenneret performing the complete works for piano four-hands by Johannes Brahms. The project continues a long tradition of interpreting Brahms’s domestic chamber music, which was originally intended for private performance and social gatherings rather than large concert halls. Le Sage, a renowned Brahms interpreter, partnered with his former student Fouchenneret to capture the intimate, conversational nature of these compositions.

B Records is known for its high-fidelity production, aiming to recreate the natural acoustic depth of a live performance. The design and technical approach of this album focus on clarity and balance, emphasizing the nuanced interplay between the two players. Upon its release, the recording was praised by critics for its structural integrity and the seamless musical chemistry between the two pianists, who navigate the complex polyphonic textures of Brahms’s writing with understated precision.
