Where it came from
Released in 2011, this single serves as a testament to the enduring career of Herman van Veen, a central figure in Dutch cabaret and music. The release pairs 'Vandaag' with 'Ook Wij, Titaantjes,' a song inspired by the classic Dutch novella 'Titaantjes' by Nescio. This pairing reflects van Veen’s long-standing interest in literary themes and his reputation for blending nostalgic, poetic storytelling with contemporary musical arrangements.
The recording was issued under the TV5MONDE label, reflecting the international reach and cultural significance of van Veen’s work within the Francophone and Dutch-speaking spheres. The design and production are consistent with his established aesthetic, favoring a clean, introspective presentation that highlights his role as a performer who bridges the gap between traditional chanson and modern performance art. It was received as a modest, characteristically thoughtful addition to his extensive discography.
